XBMC Crash with softmod - guisetting.xml???

  • okay.. i installed my softmod about a year ago using Krazy Ndure.. i set XboxMediaCenter as my dashboard and everything had been working great!! today, i booted it up and XBMC came up fine, it just wasnt connect to the network. so I restarted XBMC using the XBMC dashboard.

Next thing i get is a screen saying:

    XBMC Fatal Error
    T:guisetting.xml, Line 0
    Failed to Open File

..... ftp server running on 192.168.0.4

I'm not sure what happened.. but I FTP'd into the xbox and looked around.. but there's no T: drive...

    just C: , D:, E: and Q:

the dashboard files are on C: drive
    D: drive is empty
E: drive has some gamesaves, etc...
Q: drive has the Xbox Media Center files in the root directory.

I figured maybe I corrupted my dashboard.xbe file or or my config file, so I rdownloaded a new default.xbe file from xboxmediacenter.com and created a new .cfg file and replaced the ones on my xbox C: drive. but that didnt help either!!

Is been so long since I did the original mod, I really don't remember enough to try anything else!!

    Does anybody have any suggestions???

  • Sounds like the xbe has been placed on C: instead of with the rest of XBMC. Before you do anything, make sure you have a backup xbe on C:, or wherever your dash files are located (eg named evoxdash.xbe) that gives you FTP access.

Place XBMC as-is somewhere on your harddisk (eg E:AppsXBMC).

Use a shortcut xbe to link to it off C:

This is all outlined in the readme of the T3CH build you downloaded.

    Cheers,
    Jonathan

  • ughh... i got my xbox's mixed up.. the one that I was having problems with is the hardmodded one. Its a strange setup, as it boots from the E: drive. I got the XBMC to work again by replacing the shortcut xbe as recommended

However, now I have another problem... the Xbox no longer works when I switch the mod chip off..

    Here's what I think happened...

when I switched the dashboard in C: drive on my first attempt to fix it, i switched the original xboxdash.xbe and the original xboxdash.cfg file out with the shortcut xbe and .cfg file. i have the backup of the xboxdash.xbe file, but I deleted the .cfg file completely. Is there a way to get another .cfg file?

    thanks,

    sf

  • I don't understand.. how would that have happened? it was working one minute, then it literally rebooted and stopped working.

the only dashboard name I have in the C: drive is:

    xboxdash.xbe

    There's a file also named: xboxdash_rename.xbe

I think thats the backup of the dashboard that was installed when I installed the softmod.

ok.. i'll copy a new version of XBMC to my E: drive under E:AppsXBMC and then try to setup a new shortcut xbe to point to it.

  • hmm... I guess I don't really need to fix this, since I run the xbox with the modchip on 99.99999% of the time, but i just dont like knowing its messed up, so I want to fix it if I can.

I have a backup copy of the original xboxdash.xbe on a CD.

I also have my original HD, which I pulled out of the xbox when the modchip was installed. This should have the dashboard and .cfg file too.. Is there a way I can pull it off of there?

I think I may also have the eeprom backed up somewhere on the hard drive too.. if thats necessary.

Any help would be much appreciated..

    thanks,

    SF
