What happens if you take whiskers off of a gerbil?

  • Why would you?
    Gerbils need their whiskers, because they don't have good vision they use their whiskers. They also use it in small spaces when they can't see. It would be very painful, unless you sedated them.
    I don't see the point...

  • If you really are going to take your gerbils whiskers off, you really shouldn't have them. It's cruel and no sane person would do it.


  • They would walk funny, because whiskers help gerbils with balance some-what.

    They wouldn't be able to tell how big a hole was to fit through.

    Whiskers help gerbils with their sense of rhythm, and touch.

    They would also be very scared of who ever did it to them.

    *NEVER TAKE OF THEIR WHISKERS!*

  • I assume it's very painful and probably very bad. I know that cats use their whiskers to judge if they can fit through a space, and that if you were to cut a whisker off, it would hurt one hell of a lot. Whiskers probably serve a function with gerbils as well, so I wouldn't cut them off.


  • Well, gerbils don't use their whiskers like cats use their whiskers but they still need them for something otherwise they wouldn't be there.

    Please do not cut the whiskers off of any animal.
