Confused about codeshares

  • I haven't had much experience with codeshares; can someone shed some light please?

On the AA.com schedules, if a non-AA connecting flight in the schedule has an asterisk, is that the codeshare for AA or for the airline listed by the asterisk?

  • But there are different kinds of codeshares.

There's Eagle codeshares and TWA codeshares vs. the foreign-airline codeshares.

We can still upgrade TWA-operated flights, but not any of the foreign-airline codeshares.

  • If you are referring to AA* flight numbers, yes, these are AA codeshares on flights operated by another airline. For the purposes of AAdvantage mileage accrual, it's as if you were flying a regular AA flight.

  • It's pretty easy to tell online.

Any flight that's listed as American Airlines and had a flight # 4000 or higher is a code share.
