Any info about Air Japan?

  • I'm booked on an NH flight operated by Air Japan from HKG-NRT. Can't find any info on them. I "googled" them and only came up with JAL stuff. Anyone flown them before?

  • I flew NH flight operated by Air Japan from NRT-HKG in Feb 2005 in business class. I have never flown business class on a Japanese airline so I can't compare. However, the service I received was remarkable; I couldn't believe how good it was. Very friendly and attentive service.

Since I felt adventurous, I ordered the Japanese meal. I'm sure for a Japanese person, it would have been great. I forced myself to try everything that was served to me which was all unfamiliar to me. I wish ordered the western meal.

Tea and coffee service was excellent. The rolled out a cart just to serve it!!

Just before arrival, they served mini-tubs of Haagen-Dazs.

Again, I can't say enough great things about these friendly, gracious flight attendants. Smiles all around!!!

I've flown intra-Asian business class flights on CX and SQ. The inflight service on Air Japan ranks right up there, IMHO.

I flew on a 767 with only 5 seats across (as opposed to 6 on AA or UA in 767 business class cabins. Thus the seats were very spacious and had excellent pitch.

  • They are a subsidiary of ANA that operate flights on behalf of ANA. I think the rationale behind it is that the company has a lower cost structure than ANA mainline.

I flew with them recently from NRT to BKK and the comfort and service was equivalent to ANA mainline. No complaints.

  • IIRC, a prominent NH DIamond on this board once told me that all of the "Club ANA Asia" aircraft are owned by Air Japan.

I would say that the relationship is similar to UA and Ted. Nobody in the world can argue that they are actually 2 carriers.

However, there is NO drop in service level when going from ANA to Air Japan like you see from UA to Ted.

  • It's used to lower personel costs, they use the same people on the same aircraft for lower (different wages fewer perks etc.).Domestically they use ANK (Air Nippon) the same way. Soon they will start up another company called Air Next. It's how they have reduced costs. JL uses Jalways for the same reasons, except that Jalways also uses "foreign" FA's for the most part.
