What's the general consensus on luck getting an upgrade actually at the time the window you are eligible for opens? In other words I am PLAT and it is now 48 hours to my flight and I still do not have a confirmed upgrade despite 8 seats showing open in F.
Do these windows actually mean anything or are they useless until the actual inventory is released and then they just go down the list in order of status and when initially requested? If upgrade inventory is available, upgds should clear fairly soon after your upgd window opens. Some routes, such as the transcons, have heavy traffic of elites, and hence tend to be more difficult to upgrade on. Perhaps this factor comes into play?
Also, you're sure you are in the queue for an upgrade right? If not sure, a quick call to the PLT desk might be in order.

[ Unofficial Guide to AAdvantage (http://fewmiles.tripod.com/AA/index.html#1)] [ Unofficial oneworld Info Desk (http://fewmiles.tripod.com/oneworld/index.html#1)]Speaking as a EXP, I'm 100% on upgrades. I have noticed however that they do not all clear at the 100 hours anymore as they did prior to 9/11
Even with wide open cabins I've been down to 24 hours before some have cleared which is very unusual. As a PLT out of BOS, I've never not been upgraded. Sometimes I don't receive the email notification exactly 72 hours before, and I call - and they promptly upgrade me - i've had 100% success from BOS to SFO, SJC, SEA, STT, MIA, DCA and back.Originally posted by SuperSlug:
Silly question: did you request an e-mail confirmation?
I'd say there have been about 10 times this year (if I had to guess) when I hadn't received an e-mail confirmation about 24 hours out. Just to make sure, I called and, lo and behold, the upg had already gone through--I just hadn't been notified. Anybody else experienced this?
Silly qustion: How? Do you have to use an agent to get this service? (I've never bothered an agent for upgrade requests; always used the phone system.)
--LairdMaybe I have just been really lucky this year, but about 98% of mine have cleared at the 72 hr. window (I am PLT).
Now, I did have a close call at the gate in ORD - 5:30 p.m. 777 flight ORD-DFW.
The gate agent told me I was the only one who got an upgrade at the gate and I was the first on the list. That's why it is sooo important to check in early at airport if you really want it.
Good Luck.As a PLT out of Boston, I was not successful in upgrading companions on afternoon flights to ORD or MIA. (I was already confirmed in F in each instance.) No doubt reflecting folks with full F/J tickets making international connections.
I've been unsuccessful in getting red-eye companion upgrades on the single night LAX-BOS 757. Otherwise, transcon flights have been successful, in my experience. It's interesting, it's not my ability to upgrade that has really changed (I am also at about 99%), but I have noticed that whereas previously it would come right at the 72 hour window, now it is coming either later or not until I do it at the airport. This weekend's trip is a case in point.
Friday: LGA-MIA (queued for upgrade - 7 out of 14 seats in First show open - no confirmation yet with about 5 hours to flight time).
Sunday: MIA-LGA (queued for upgrade - got email confirmation 72 hours in advance almost to the minute - done)Silly question: did you request an e-mail confirmation?

Anybody else experienced this? The list is not transferred, which is why it's important to request to be put on the upgrade list when you check-in. The airport list is entirely separate from the reservation/ticketing list.BTW, FlyLots, how about inserting a few spaces into the "From" field in your user profile? It'd help prevent FT screen "distortion" problems. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif
FewMiles..the computer will clear ug's @ the window if available. otherwise , you keep your status until the gate people are given control. i don't know whether the list is xfered or you have to request @ the airport. anyway, it seems that you have to wait until all the carryon space is taken to see whether u get the ug @ the gate.#If you have any other info about this subject , Please add it free.# |
